CCMD Structure

The Penn State group has developed the MatCASE (Materials Computation and Simulation Environment) suite of multiscale modeling tools and databases through an NSF Information Technology Research project. Georgia Tech has built on AFOSR support to integrateheterogeneous, multiscale material models using systems-based strategies for robust design of materials, including the development of a virtual materials design studio. The virtual materials design studio concept is being applied in the CCMD to allow the MatCASE materials modeling components to be integrated along with a suite of decision-based robust design tools, adaptively configured for each unique materials design problem.

The structure of the CCMD is composed of a Management Team, Member Advisory Board (MAB), Center Evaluator, university faculty, and students and postdoctoral fellows. The MAB advises the Center on research opportunities and monitors its progress. MAB members recommend focused research projects, assist in providing guidance to the Center, and provide feedback to the Management Team on current projects. They also directly participate in research projects in both mentoring and collaborative roles, particularly through critically designed experimental validations of computational predictions or integration with modeling and simulation, and/or design aspects.

The CCMD management team is composed of a Director, Co-Director, MAB Chairman and Vice-Chairman,and administrative representatives from Penn State and Georgia Tech. The Center Evaluator provides an objective view of CCMD performance, providing independent suggestions for continued improvement of the Center.

Initial project proposals relevant to the two research themes are developed on an annual basis. Funding of CCMD projects is determined by vote of the Member Advisory Board as advisement to the CCMD Management Team. The dues and associated voting weight are structured as described below.
